The Bnai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program

By Hannah Davis-- The Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy program is an amazing program for teens. It teaches teens in the Jewish community the importance of giving Tzedakah and helping others. The Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy program enables teens to be like many charitable adults and give annual gifts to worthy causes.

Before my celebration of me becoming a Bat Mitzvah I knew I wanted to donate the money I received, but I didn’t know which charity. There are so many charities in Toronto, Israel, and the rest of the world that could greatly benefit from my donation. My parents had heard about the Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy program and had set up a meeting for me. I was skeptical, but I went to the meeting with an open mind. Joining the Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy program was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I now have the ability to give to all the charities I wanted to give my money to, plus more. It is such a great feeling to be able to help out so many different charities. Even though I’m just a teenager, I am able to give a significant gift to charities every year, and I will be able to for the rest of my life.

Not only does the Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy program give the amazing opportunity for teenagers to donate money to the charities of their choice every year, but it also educates teens about the charities that are in need of their help. At the Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy program we run programs educating teens about the charities in Toronto, Israel, and around the world that need their help. Not only are the programs educational, but they are fun, inspirational, and worthwhile. Some of our programs involve hearing someone from the organization speak about their charity, others involve us going to the organization to learn about it there and lend a hand and volunteer our time. My favourite program that we have done so far is the Amazing Tzedakah Race. This resembled the show “The Amazing Race” with the idea that we went from one charitable organization to the next and followed the instructions on the clues at each charity. Of course, while we were at each charity the task on the clue had us do something to help out the organization we were at. This program taught me about many different charities out there in a really fun way.

The Bnai Tzedek teen philanthropy fund is an amazing initiative that teaches teenagers in the Jewish community about the importance of Tzedakah and Tikun Olam. This program has taught me so much about myself and the world I live in, and it has changed me forever. I love the feeling I get every year when I get to allocate money to the charities of my choice, and everyone should be able to experience the feeling of helping others.
